I love it when my homework assignment is a piece of cake! Today's photo-a-day challenge was just such a no-brainer!
As soon as I saw that, on the 21st, I would need to produce a favorite picture of myself, I knew exactly which one it was going to be! Of course, it helps that I try to avoid finding myself on the business end of a camera whenever possible...so it's not like I had a large pool of possibilities.
However, perhaps I have mentioned before that whether we're talking about a recipe that was already good to begin with or a school schedule that was working just fine, I seem have an irritating compulsion to try to meddle with stuff that doesn't really require my help. I really have no explanation...no good excuse...it's just kinda how I roll.
So, even though I had the perfect picture in mind, I decided I might as well look through my iPhoto and see if there was anything else in there I liked better...and since I just dumped 764 pictures into there from my phone, there was no shortage of potential nominees!
As a general rule, I really, really hate looking at pictures of myself. This was a problem of nearly neurotic proportions before I had my gastric bypass surgery. But a lifetime of shying away from looking at myself is a pretty strong habit!
Be that as it may, I did find a couple pictures of me that I actually liked:
To the casual observer, these two pictures appear to be very different. In the top pic I'm wearing my old Bible Boot Camp t-shirt, my big ol' orange watch, and no discernible attempt at a hairdo whatsoever. In the bottom picture, I'm dressed up, wearing jewelry, and have as my background the walls of the Russian Tea Room--one of our favorite haunts in Chicago! Top picture--I'm driving the Big Red Bus of Love in beautiful no-town Rozetta.
So what do these two pictures have in common? Isn't it obvious? In both pictures, I look genuinely happy...not just take-my-picture-already happy. That's because in both pictures, I'm looking at this guy:
Even as we speak, Sweet Jimmy B and I are just four days away from celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary. If our marriage were a person, he would be able to vote in the upcoming election! That's a pretty long time!
Now, I'm not saying I have never taken my husband for granted...and I'm most certainly not saying that I have always treated him as the gift he is. Quite the contrary!
However, I have seen enough and I have learned enough that I don't have to be reminded what a blessing I have been given here.
And that's why, in my opinion, any good picture of me has to have SJB in it too.
Blessings!

I think you should have posted the one from bible school of you and dad. But these are good, too.
