I knew exactly what I was going to do with “Time” day from the get-go. In fact, I had it so clearly fixed in my mind that I was a little surprised when my daughter Krystal (who is also taking part in the Challenge) asked what I was going to do. To me it seemed obvious!
I mean, really…who wouldn’t want to watch a typical day unfold at Stately Bennett Manor? ;-)
But then it ended up being anything but a normal day. For starters, we had a terrible time locating our get-up-and-go! (I blame the public schools. They had the day off, and I still can't help but feel a pull toward vacation days, snow days, teachers’ institutes…)
So…we were late having breakfast, late starting school, and generally struggling to even find the clutch and make it into second gear.
Then Sweet Daddy B came home from the gym and suggested we take a field trip since the weather was so nice...and that seemed like the perfect way to salvage the day!
However, it’s not the usual.
Also not typical is the fact that we had been invited to Joe and Bev Zielke’s house for Joe’s world-famous homemade pizza! We don’t get a lot of dinner invitations from people with whom we are not blood-related. Frankly, most people just don’t have the table space! (Or the tolerance for constant noise and perpetual movement!)
Even more exciting (and courageous on the part of Joe and Bev) was the fact that they had also invited some other church friends...so that was a great treat!
And then, since nothing else had been normal about the day, we didn’t get home until time for Mary, Mercy, and Sam to go to bed, so they were up later than usual…which throws off bedtimes across the board!
So, while it wasn’t a standard day in the life of the Bennetts, it was our day yesterday. There was a lot of extra special stuff that doesn’t happen all that often…and there were some things that are pretty much an essential part of every day that didn’t happen at all. But welcome to our February 17th…for better or for worse.
The first shot of the day! The boys got up to head off to the YMCA;
I became conscious enough to take a picture...
And proceeded to zonk out for another hour and a half!
Buster is always there to help me start my workday.
Oh, look! My grand-cutie Sammi Jo is on facebook this morning!
First load of the day...going in!
Browning sausage for omelets.
First omelet up!
OK...the omelet shop is closed for the morning!
School time! (Only an hour and fifteen minutes behind schedule!
Not bad for a Friday, I guess.)
Hey, hey! Impromptu field trip!
Daniel crawling through a tunnel...
I guess it wasn't such an unusual day after all!
I love this picture!
Unfortunately, this is all we got to see of Starr's Cave.
Something about the bats. Hey...I'm a firm believer
in letting sleeping bats lie!
Mercy wanted to stand in the hollow tree,
but she says it smelled bad in there.
How is this at all helpful?
OK...time to make my grocery list! I'm serious!
Daniel in his natural habitat.
I think the comforter, the horizontal position, and the time lapse
speak for themselves!
Heading down the road to Zielke's Pizzeria!
That's Chicago-style deep dish in the back, friends. Too good!
Justin Allaman caught Mercy as she ran past!
The brave Joe and Bev Zielke, ladies and gentlemen!
Only a half-hour late. Not bad considering all the ground we covered today.
Hannah and Daniel are the next shift to head to bed.
And Grace and Jamie bring up the rear!
Pumpkin-raisin cereal in the crock pot for breakfast.
Saturday mornings are a little crazy, so we try to put it together
as much as we can the night before.
Who knew I had accumulated 764 pictures on my phone?!
We're gonna get those rolling onto my computer
and wake up to a long walk down memory lane!
Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
